Grandma says Hello!
Well, in spite of 3 separate injuries and being horribly undertrained, I ran Grandma's marathon on June 16th. The weather was brutal (88 degrees, 50-75% humidity), causing some slow times. Men's winning time was 2:16. I had grand plans to finish this one close to 3:15, but no such luck. Taking 9 weeks off is just not conducive to running a BQ. I did do some last minute cramming (which I was later told didn't help me) -- running 9.5 miles at Waterfall Glen the Sunday before the race, then 15.33 miles two days later on a treadmill at work. I just had to test my tibia though, since I'd been experiencing pain in it since the end of March. End result: 4:25. Slowest marathon ever, but considering the circumstances, not too shabby.
Oh, the other two injuries were fractured toes (not running related!).
After the race, my worst pain was my sunburn (and my pride).
PS - This is week 4 of Chicago training. Also, I've decided to run the Columbus marathon 2 weeks after Chicago. Someone I met up in Duluth suggested it.
