Back on the ice
This week I got back into hockey - a bit scary for cross traning considering the injury potential. But it felt good to be out there again. Here's how the training is shaping up for this week:
Mon 3/20 - Ran a 10K on the treadmill, in 47:50. Not too fast, but not bad. I stretched the IT band a couple different ways and this seemed to help.
Tue 3/21 - No running, but played hockey to cross train, about 90 minutes or so. No problems with the knee or anything else.
Wed 3/22 - Rest!
Thu 3/23 - Ran 10K in 49:30, but added hills to the tranining session - 3 minutes at 3% grade, followed by 3 minutes at 0%. Did some intervals after the 10K to total 7.5 miles in just over an hour.
Fri 3/24 - Not sure yet. Maybe run, maybe more hockey. [Conclusion: ran 6 miles on treadmill - then couldn't resist doing a complete 10K so I did that. About 8 minutes per mile, and no pain from any knee area.]
Sat 3/25 - Long run planned. If I'm allowed to do the San Diego Marathon, I'll be doing 12 miles. That will be tough. [ Final results: ran only 8 miles on advice from Carolyn. The whole loop was 9.5 miles, and probably doable, but I resisted the urge. Met some nice people on the trail (Art and his 2 dogs) and later at breakfast. Couldn't do the R&R marathon due to a scheduling conflict, but maybe I'll do the Sunburst one on the same day in South Bend. My sponsors will not be pleased...
Sun 3/26 - Rest planned, and I'll need it.
